Gujarati Masala Puri Recipe - A crispy fried snacks dish made from whole wheat flour and chickpea flour.
  • Wheat flour: 1 cup
  • Besan: 1 tbsp
  • Red chili powder: 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder: 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing): 1/4 tsp
  • Salt: 1 tsp or to taste
  • Oil: 1 1/2 tsp
  • Oil: 2 cups for frying
  1. Take the wheat flour in a mixing bowl and add besan / chickpea flour.
  2. Now add red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and 1 1/2 tbsp of oil in wheat flour bowl. Also add salt to taste.
  3. Combine all the ingredients together and knead into a stiff dough using enough water. Keep aside for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into roughly equal lime size balls.
  5. Place a dough ball on rolling board and roll into 2.5 to 3 inch diameter disc.
  6. Prick each poori with the help of fork and place them in a plate for deep frying.
  7. Pre-heat oil in a deep bottom frying pan / kadhai. Check if oil is hot enough by putting a small dough piece in hot oil.
  8. Once the oil is hot drop one by one rolled pooris. Depending on the size of vessel for frying add number of pooris that can fit in the vessel.
  9. Let the poori gets fried on each side uniformly. Flip masala puri as soon as one side is cooked.
  10. Once the masala puri is fried take out them from frying pan and place them on kitchen napkin / paper towel to soak extra oil.
  11. Gujarati Masala Puri for snacks is ready to serve.
